Social Security touches the lives of nearly all Americans. We provide financial protection to help all Americans and our commitment extends to all people covered by Social Security’s programs and services, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We treat everyone with dignity and respect. Social Security recognizes same-sex couples’ marriages in all states, and some non-marital legal relationships (such as some civil unions and domestic partnerships), for purposes of determining entitlement to Social Security benefits, Medicare entitlement, and eligibility and payment amount for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Take this opportunity to learn about the topics below and how they can affect you, your family and your future.
