Journal in the Round: Estate Planning for Clients in a Changing World

It is imperative for financial planners to inform clients of constantly changing federal and state laws regarding estate planning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Join April’s Journal of Financial Planning contributors Randy Gardner, J.D., LL.M., CPA, RLP®, CFP® and Leslie Daff, J.D., MBA as they expanded on the basic estate planning framework and advanced planning guidance outlined in their article, emphasizing important strategies and information to communicate with clients during and after the pandemic. This online, interactive roundtable conversation was moderated by FPA host Robert Castillo, ADPA.

Robert Castillo, ADPA, has been working with Ross Gerber and Danilo Kawasaki, President and Vice President of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management, since 2009. Before joining Gerber Kawasaki, Castillo worked as an educator and fundraiser in the nonprofit sector for three years. He has been on Gerber Kawasaki's Investment Selection Committee since 2011 and has held the designation of Accredited Domestic Partnership Advisor since 2014.

Leslie Daff, J.D.

Founder, Estate Plan, Inc.

Leslie Daff, founder of Estate Plan, Inc. and is a State Bar Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Probate, and Trust Law. She is also certified as an estate planning law specialist and has been designated an Accredited Estate Planner by Estate Law Specialist Board, Inc., a subsidiary of the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils. Daff has been named a Super Lawyer by Thompson Reuters, a designation granted to no more than five percent of attorneys in the country based on peer recognition and professional achievement.

Randy Gardner, JD, LLM, MBA, CPA, CFP®, RLP

Randy Gardner is the founder of Goals Gap Planning, LLC, a fee-only tax, estate, and holistic personal financial planning firm with offices in Laguna Beach, CA and Las Vegas, NV, a wealth strategist for the Garrett Planning Network, and an adjunct professor at the American College. Randy taught for 33 years as a professor of tax and estate planning and director of the financial planning program at the University of Missouri. Randy is a columnist for The Journal of Financial Planning and the co-author (with Julie Welch) of 101 Tax Saving Ideas.
