Self-study exam based on a thorough understanding of articles that include the topics of: retirement income and distribution strategies; asset allocation and portfolio diversification; client and planner attitudes, values, biases; behavioral finance; general principles of effective communication; property titling and beneficiary designations; strategies to transfer property; types, features, and taxation of trusts; planning for divorce, unmarried couples and other special circumstances; planning for special needs and circumstances. 

After reading and understanding the four articles required for this exam, the planner will:

  1. Understand how asset allocation affects volatility of required minimum distribution payouts.
  2. Understand how to communicate with clients regarding risk tolerance.
  3. Understand how to impart information to clients without inappropriately influencing their decisions. 
  4. Understand issues related to estate planning for remarried couples and blended families.
