Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics are transforming the financial landscape. In this talk, we’ll discuss how and why the AI revolution came to be with the introduction of ChatGPT in November 2022. We will explain the basic logic AI systems, as well as what they do well and what they do poorly. Our focus will be on what problems AI systems can solve for financial practitioners, a point we develop through a case studies that highlight the power and limitations of AI in finance. We will provide resources where attendees can learn more about AI technologies.

Dr. Harry Mamaysky is a Professor at Columbia Business School, where he is the Director of the Program for Financial Studies. Harry’s research focuses on the application of quantitative techniques to investing and financial planning. Harry is also a partner at QuantStreet Capital, which offers its clients model portfolios, financial advice, and investing services through separately managed accounts. Harry is a frequent industry and academic speaker. Prior to Columbia, Harry spent years in finance practice, rising to senior portfolio manager at Citigroup, and serving on the firm’s Risk Executive Committee. Harry earned his PhD in Finance from MIT.
