Philanthropic professionals often interact and intersect with a donor’s professional advisors in the course and scope of the client’s philanthropy. This practical program discusses and identifies some best practices in the sometimes awkward or tricky relationship of a philanthropic professional on behalf of a charitable organization and a donor’s professional advisor.

  • By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to appreciate the critical importance of the quality of the relationship between a philanthropic professional and the professional advisors of a donor or prospective donor in the chances of the donor or prospective donor making a significant gift.
  • By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to understand what motivates both philanthropic professionals and a donor’s professional advisors and why it’s important to know this information
  • By the end of the presentation, participants will learn some best practices for all advisor to work together

Paul Hood Services

Paul Hood obtained his undergraduate and law degrees from Louisiana State University and an LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. Paul has taught at the University of New Orleans, Northeastern University, The University of Toledo College of Law and Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law. Paul has authored or co-authored nine books and hundreds of professional articles on estate and tax planning and business valuation. A frequent contributor to Leimberg Information Services since its inception, Paul is a highly sought after speaker and consultant due to his innate ability to see through complexities and explain difficult and even boring subjects in understandable and entertaining language. He minces no words in doing so. Along the way, Paul’s been a father, husband, lawyer, trustee, director, president, partner, trust protector, director of planned giving, expert witness, agent, professor, judge, juror and a defendant, and he uses his experience in these myriad roles to guide others.

Klementina (Tina) X. Sula is the Sr. Director of Family Philanthropy at the Jewish Federation of Detroit. She advises multigenerational families on how to give on purpose, helping them align their philanthropy with their purpose and values while engaging the next generation with the family philanthropy. She also teaches networking at the University of Michigan. She also has experience in alumni engagement, global philanthropy, and healthcare philanthropy. She holds a B.A. in Political Science, a Master of Public Policy degree, and a M.A. in Higher Education – all from the University of Michigan.
