Self-study exam based on a thorough understanding of articles that include the topics of: Characteristics, uses and taxation of investment vehicles; Asset allocation and portfolio diversification; Bond and stock valuation concepts; Investment strategies; Fundamental and current tax law; Income tax fundamentals and calculations; Tax reduction/management techniques; and Tax implications of special circumstances.
After reading and understanding the two articles required for this exam, the planner will:
- Understand how municipal bonds can reduce taxes and how they are often seen as safe investments.
- Understand which clients would benefit from more municipal bonds in their portfolio and how to frame the benefits.
- Understand that Americans still have to pay U.S. federal income tax when living abroad and the complications that can arise.
